Uncle Bud’s Place: A Cajun Food Gem in Prescott
If you find yourself wandering through Prescott and catching the irresistible scent of hickory smoke and exotic spices, follow your nose to East Sheldon Street. Tucked away near the heart of town is Uncle Bud’s Place, a local gem that manages to bridge the gap between the high desert of Arizona and the deep bayous of Louisiana.
While Prescott is known for its Western history and Victorian architecture, Uncle Bud’s offers a different kind of heritage: authentic Cajun and BBQ. It is a cozy, straightforward spot where the focus remains exactly where it should be, on the food. It is the kind of place where portions are generous, flavors are dialed up, and everything feels homemade.

A Menu Built on Cajun and BBQ Flavor
Uncle Bud’s Place specializes in Cajun, Creole, and barbecue cuisine, with a menu that hits all the classics. You will find everything from jambalaya and étouffée to pulled pork, smoked meats, and po’ boys.
The po’ boys alone are worth the stop. Served on fresh bread and loaded with options like blackened chicken or pulled pork, they come dressed with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and a remoulade that ties everything together.

Everything is built around bold seasoning, slow cooking, and that signature Cajun depth of flavor. It is the kind of menu where you can close your eyes, point, and still end up with something solid.
What We Ordered
The chicken gumbo came first, and it set the tone immediately. Rich, hearty, and packed with flavor, it had that slow-simmered depth you expect from a proper gumbo. Not watered down, not overly thick, just right.

Next up was a smoked chuck po’ boy, and it delivered exactly what you want from a sandwich like that. Messy in the best way, loaded with meat, and balanced with fresh toppings and that signature sauce.
The mashed potatoes were classic comfort food. A perfect counter to the bold Cajun seasoning across the rest of the plate. The cornbread deserves its own mention. Slightly sweet, soft, and served alongside many of their dishes, it ties everything together and soaks up every bit of sauce you leave behind.
We also got an order of the pulled pork. Smoky, tender, and packed with flavor, it is easy to see why it is one of their standout meats and a favorite.
The Homemade Sauce Factor
One thing that really sets Uncle Bud’s Place apart is their homemade sauces. These are not an afterthought. They are a core part of the experience.
Whether you are adding a little extra kick to your pulled pork or dipping into something richer and smokier, the sauces elevate everything on the plate. The best part is you can actually take them home. They sell their sauces and once you try them, you are going to want more.

Big Flavor, Small Spot
Uncle Bud’s Place is not a big, flashy restaurant. It is a smaller space with a laid-back vibe, limited seating, and a strong focus on takeout. That is part of the appeal. It feels local. It seems like the kind of place that cares more about getting the food right than anything else.
Uncle Bud's Place has generous portions, strong flavors, and a welcoming atmosphere, with many calling it a hidden gem in Prescott.
